The European Green Party, during its 34th Council, reaffirmedits active support to further EU integration of the Western Balkans. For the European Greens, “the Western Balkans are an integral part of Europe, both culturally and geographically, as well as economically and, as such, must be welcomed into its political union. The multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-cultural character of the Western Balkans states makes a unique contribution to Europe.”
Thomas Waitz, co-chair of the European Green Party and Austrian Greens Member of the European Parliament, comments:
“For the European Greens there is no doubt that the future of the Western Balkans is within the European Union. We will continue our active support and campaign at the European level to push European institutions to fulfill their commitments and to accelerate the EU enlargement policy towards the Western Balkans.
European Greens member parties are committed to actively support the work of our Western Balkans parties and partners to help them engage towards a European future.”
Dritan Abazović, Montenegro Deputy Prime Minister and president of URA, EGP candidate member party from Montenegro, adds:
"The support of the European Green Party and its member parties for a European future for the Western Balkans will be a great impulse for the challenges that URA is eager to tackle for Montenegro. We remain engaged to reform our society in order to achieve European standards. Our goal is to raise democratic and ecological standards for our country. With the joint efforts and help from our international partners, we will work for Montenegro to become one of the next EU member states. Our fight against organised crime and corruption is a symbol of the European path we want for Montenegro."
