Ciarán Cuffe, Co-Chair of the European Green Party, said: “The result of the Green Party is impressive. This is another powerful signal that Green parties are becoming a strong political force across Europe. This shows that if you go out to vote, you can steer your country in a progressive, social and green direction.”
Vula Tsetsi, Co-Chair of the European Green Party, added: “The people in the UK send a powerful message of hope across the Channel to continental Europe. Hope is contagious, and Greens are offering a real alternative where traditional parties fall short. These results show a growing appetite for policies that deliver solutions for fairer societies, cleaner transport, and lower energy bills.”
Recent months have seen a series of strong Green results across Europe, including municipal and regional breakthroughs in several EU Member States.
In November, our Danish member party, the Green Left won the local elections in Copenhagen, with Sisse Marie Welling becoming the Lord Mayor of Denmark’s capital.
Last month in the UK, the Green Party won the by-election for an MP in Greater Manchester.
The German Greens achieved a major regional victory in Baden-Württemberg, and won the Mayorship of Munich for the first time.
