Vula Tsetsi, Co-Chair of the European Green Party, who will march alongside the trade unions in Madrid today, said:
"Workers should not be asked to pay the price for crises while national governments are prevented from investing in solutions. The European fiscal rules were designed for another era. They must be reformed to unlock the investment Europe urgently needs. Investing in renewable energy, quality jobs and affordable housing is not a cost, but the foundation of Europe’s prosperity and resilience”.
“The debate is no longer about spending versus saving. It is about investing in the future or falling behind. At a time when the conservative European People's Party and far-right forces are looking backwards, progressive forces must unite around a European investment agenda. Without investment, there is no competitiveness. Without solidarity, there can be no lasting prosperity. Europe cannot build economic security by cutting public services or delaying the green transition; it can only do so by investing in people and communities”, Tsetsi said.
Ciarán Cuffe, Co-Chair of the European Green Party, added,
“Yesterday’s vote in the European Parliament on the Return Regulation showed the same troubling pattern of the European People’s Party, together with the far right, weakening solidarity, whether it’s on economic governance or migration. We fundamentally oppose the idea of a European ICE, the detention of children, and deportations to offshore 'return hubs'. When the EPP and far right align, whether it is about workers, vulnerable communities or people seeking protection, solidarity loses.”
