Co-chair of the European Green Party Vula Tsetsi stated:
"Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in Ceuta. The past few days have shown how quickly a human tragedy can descend into a highly polarised political battleground. Tuesday’s meeting of EU Interior Ministers must show that Europe can act together by establishing the facts, protecting our external borders, preserving the integrity of Schengen and responding in full respect of the rule of law and fundamental rights."
European Green Party co-chair Ciarán Cuffe stated:
"Europe cannot afford to govern migration one crisis at a time. A strong Schengen area depends on trust, solidarity and effective management of our external borders. It also requires long-term action to address the drivers of forced migration, including conflict, repression, poverty, instability and the growing impacts of climate change."
