PRESS RELEASE
Brussels
10 November 2019
The South Tyrolean Greens ‘Verdi-GrüneVërc’ were elected to become full members of the European Green Party in a vote today during our bi-annual Council* meeting being held in Tampere. They had been candidate members for the past two years.
Commenting after the vote, the South Tyrolean Green Party leader Brigitte Foppa said:
“We are delighted to become full members of the European Green Party. The best place for our party is at the heart of the European project and we thank our colleagues from all over Europe for welcoming us into the Green family. We stand for environmental protection, social justice and European solidarity and look forward to engaging meaningfully in the years ahead to help shape a more sustainable future for Europe together with all the other European Greens.”
The co-chairs of the European Green Party Evelyne Huytebroeck and Thomas Waitz said:
“We warmly welcome the South Tyrolean Green friends into the European Green Party. Since they were founded, they have consistently fought to realise an inclusive, multicultural political space based on respect for nature and the environment in one of the most important biospheres and habitats of the Alps. Their unique experience as a unifying force in a diverse cultural and multilingual context will undoubtedly be a huge asset within the European Green Party.”
