On Saturday, the members of GroenLinks and PvdA meet near Utrecht, Netherlands, in a joint congress, as they decided to run together on a joint list for the upcoming national elections in the Netherlands and to launch a new political platform based on shared progressive values.
European Green Party co-chair Ciarán Cuffe said:
“The alliance of Greens and progressives is in pole position to become the largest democratic political force in the Netherlands. We are proud to see this Green–Left platform with GroenLinks at its heart, fighting the rising far right in Europe. We believe voters deserve a political force that is Green, not just Left – a force whose core mission is to deliver a Green New Deal, ecological modernisation, and a socially just transition.”
European Green Party co-chair Vula Tsetsi added:
“This alliance reflects the core values we stand for as European Greens: climate justice, democracy, solidarity, and equality. Resisting the far right means offering a credible, values-driven alternative rooted in people’s real needs. Greens and progressives can win – as we’ve shown in Zagreb, Riga, and now, we hope, in the Netherlands. As a political family, we are committed to ensuring that our voice and values continue to inspire this new platform, with green politics at its core. GroenLinks has been a key force in our shared vision for a just and sustainable Europe, and we are proud of the legacy they bring into this next chapter.”
The delegation of the European Green Party (EGP) at the congress will include European Green Party Co-chairs Vula Tsetsi and Ciarán Cuffe, EGP Secretary General Benedetta de Marte and EGP Committee Member Marieke van Doorninck.
