In response to President Trump’s announcement that the United States would buy Russian diesel the European Green Party’s co-chair Ciarán Cuffe said:
“President Zelenskyy needs to leave the European Council knowing that though President Trump may be abandoning Ukraine, Europe has his back. European leaders need to show their unequivocal support for Ukraine.
Let there be no doubt, this is about electoral gain in the US midterm elections. Even Senior republicans agree that under no circumstances should the US be breaching sanctions to import Russian oil and fossil fuel products.
We need to transition to renewables as a matter of urgency, to reduce our dependency on fossil fuel, and the autocrats who feed on them.”
