Geopolitical Europe: shaping a Green narrative
The Von der Leyen Commission hailed the ascent of a geopolitical Europe, but Europe has a long way to go to position itself as a strong and united global actor. Underlying this are more fundamental questions – what is it that such a geopolitical Europe seeks to achieve or defend, and for who? What happens when the battle analogies lose their shine and the language of power struggles to deliver lasting peace?
This session will proceed in two parts. First, panellists will reflect on where we are now in terms of Europe’s geopolitical agenda and how it is received and perceived across the continent and beyond. Next, we turn to bold recommendations and provocative ideas for a green alternative – how to project and provide real security in precarious times, and credibly counter militarist responses without ignoring defensive vulnerabilities. The session concludes with a moderated Q&A.
