Support for International Day of Action on Climate Change

Synopsis

This motion pledges the European Green Party to build support for the next International Day of Action on Climate Change organised by the Global Climate Campaign in November 2006.

Motion to Support an International Day of Action on Climate Change.

To support international action against climate change, the European Green Party resolve to:

A) Give our wholehearted support and all possible and appropriate practical help to promoting national and international demonstrations against climate change on November 4th, the Saturday before the next round of UN climate talks in Nairobi, Kenya from 6-17 November 2006.

B) Call on the governments of the USA & Australia to support international action on climate change by ratifying the Kyoto treaty and becoming an active part of a process that will lead to mandatory reductions of climate-destabilizing gas emissions in the post-Kyoto period.

C) Urge world leaders and the international community as a whole to move as rapidly as possible to a much stronger international agreement that is both equitable and effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions to a level that will avoid dangerous climate change.
