Russia and the Council of Europe

The European Court of Human Rights is a great success and is attracting an exponentially growing number of requests especially from citizens of East-European countries. To cope with the workload all members of the Council of Europe signed Protocol 14 to streamline the procedure. All members but one, the Russian Federation, ratified the Protocol. The Duma rejected the Protocol in December 2006.

The European Greens regret this decision of the Duma and demand that the Russian Parliament reconsiders this decision.
