on homophobia

On May 17th 1990, the General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from their list of mental disorders, ending with more than a century of medical homophobia.

The first « Day » will take place on May 17th 2005 in more than 30 countries all over the world.
The European Green Party supports the International Day against Homophobia (IDAHO) and is in favor of an international recognition of lesbians, gays, bi and trans people. The European Green Party appeals to all political authorities, institutions, parties, organizations, associations, unions, citizens, to join the movement, to recognize this international Day and to organize events for this special occasion.

The European Green Party supports the aim of placing this Day on the national calendar in a maximum number of countries and then to have it adopted on an international level.

The fight against homophobia is not only a gay, lesbian, bi or trans people issue, but is the full responsibility of public authorities and of the whole society. It is a part of the fight against any discrimination and for the respect and dignity of all the minorities which is a basic principle of the European Greens as well of the Global Greens.
