on Darfur

"Recognizing that the government of Sudan is effectively allowing genocide to take place in Darfur, which was recently described to the UN as "The first major genocide of the 21st century" and recognizing that the UN has a clear mandate to intervene under the policy of Responsibility to Protect (R2P) which it adopted in 2005, we call upon the European Green Party and the Green Group in the European Parliament to use all their powers to persuade the European Union to act quickly and decisively to bring political and economic pressure to bear on both China, which is Sudan's major supporter in the United Nations Security Council, and the Sudan, in order to end the genocidal actions of both the Sudanese government and government sponsored militias, which are endangering the lives of so many people in this part of Africa ."
