The European Green Party extends its best wishes and full support to the Union of Democrats For Lithuania in the first round of Lithuania’s parliamentary elections this Sunday, 13 October.
Demokratų sąjunga „Vardan Lietuvos“ (DSVL) is the only party in Lithuania that is a member of the European Green Party. Polls show DSVL in third place, close behind the parties who are members of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the European People’s Party (EPP). DSVL is campaigning on the key issues of social justice, including food prices, taxation, and the eradication of child poverty, as well as defence and security.
At a time when Lithuania is divided and weary, DSVL promises to bring a much-needed sense of stability, expertise, ambition, calm governance, and pushing back against the division of the society.
DSVL has a strong track record in state governance. Their leading candidate, Saulius Skvernelis, served as Prime Minister of Lithuania from 2016 to 2020. Their proposed Minister of Foreign Affairs is current Greens/EFA MEP Virginijus Sinkevičius, who held the post of European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans, and Fisheries from 2019 to 2024.
