“This summer has witnessed more than thirty thousand excess deaths in Europe due to repeated heatwaves. Together with wildfires and droughts the climate crisis is impossible to ignore. People have struggled to sleep and work in extreme heat, farmers have watched drought damage their land, and communities across Europe have seen their homes and forests burn. These are not warnings about the future. This is Europe today,” says Ciarán Cuffe, Co-Chair of the European Green Party.
“People are worried and angry because they know this does not have to be our future. The European Green Party called for an emergency Heat Summit of European government leaders when the major heatwave hit in June, but the response from Europe’s leaders has remained far below the scale of the crisis. After a summer like this, the European Green Deal must be boosted and accelerated, with stronger investment in renewable energy, climate-resilient cities and infrastructure, protection and restoration of nature, and far faster action to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.”
“That is why we are bringing a large Green delegation to the Climate March in Amsterdam, and why we are calling on everyone who wants a safer future to join us on 12 September. You can count on the European Greens to turn your anger and concern about the climate crisis into political pressure for action," Ciarán Cuffe concluded.

The European Green Party will join the Climate March ("Klimaatmars") in Amsterdam on Saturday 12 September 2026. It is the Netherlands’ largest climate demonstration, organised by the Klimaatcrisis Coalitie, a coalition of more than 200 organisations. The march starts at 13:00 at the Dam in Amsterdam. Organisers are calling for the Netherlands to “Choose our future. Get rid of fossil fuels”. The European Greens will participate with a large delegation of Green members and politicians from across Europe.
The EGP is also organising a programme on the morning of the march, before the delegation walks together to the Dam. Further details and press registration information will follow shortly.
