Brussels
05 June 2022
On 5 June 2022, member parties of the European Green Party unanimously welcomed Progresīvie as a new member of the European Greens family.
Thomas Waitz and Mélanie Vogel, co-chairs of the European Green Party, comment:
“We are very happy to welcome Progresīvie as a candidate member of the European Green Party. It is particularly important for us to welcome a new member party from the Baltic region. The geopolitical challenges Europe faces are exacerbated in Latvia. Progresīvie presents a truly Green platform, which we are happy to support. Their programme fully embraces the need for a just transition that shifts aways from Russian and other fossil fuels.
The European Green Party and our member parties across Europe are ready to support them in achieving their goals and in helping them engage Latvia in this transition.”
Antoņina Ņenaševa and Atis Švinka, co-chairs of Progresīvie, add:
“We are delighted to join the European Greens family today. The European Green Party and its member parties are the closest to our vision for the future of Latvia. We are looking forward to working together for a just, green and fair future in Latvia.
The current geopolitical situation requires unprecedented measures to shift away quickly from fossil fuels, in particular from Russian dependency. Only the Greens are offering solid plans for a quick transition which also ensure no one is left behind. The fact that the Greens consider the energy transition embedded in the social and just transition is of utmost importance for us. “
