Vula Tsetsi, co-chair of the European Green Party, said:
‘As foreign ministers meet tomorrow in Luxembourg, the European Union faces a clear choice: act, or be complicit. We fully stand with the European Citizens’ Initiative calling for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, it’s an unprecedented mobilisation of European citizens demanding respect for international law and an end to EU complicity. Continuing this agreement makes the EU itself responsible for allowing grave violations of international law to continue. In light of the terrible violence perpetrated in Lebanon and across the region, nobody can close their eyes any longer. We still should work together with civil society including progressive forces which count on us.’’
Ciarán Cuffe, co-chair of the European Green Party, concluded:
‘The pressure across Europe is growing. France and Sweden are calling for tougher measures on illegal settlements, while Spain, Ireland and Slovenia push for action on the Association Agreement. We have been demanding the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement for almost a year now. The EU must now move from discussion to decisions: respect for international law is not optional; it is the foundation of European policy and values.’
