As European greens, we are proud to have this open process to elect our European leading candidate. It will enable citizens to have a clear say on who they want to put in power at European level.”
The next steps in the procedure
By 7 January, the above nominees must have the support of at least 5 additional member parties to be eligible. This rule exists because we want our top candidates to be truly transnational.
At the extended European Green Congress 2-4 February 2024 in Lyon, two of these nominees will be elected by hundreds of delegates. The leading candidates (also known as ‘European Spitzenkandidaten’) will become the heart and face of our common European Green campaign for the European elections in June 2024. This congress will also vote on the Manifesto and the campaign priorities.
