The European Union must act without delay to promote de-escalation and prevent further bloodshed. This moment demands moral clarity, courage, and consistency.
We call for an immediate diplomatic de-escalation, with all parties halting military actions and committing to restraint. A credible EU-led mediation initiative is required that works with regional actors and the United Nations to contain the conflict, as well as working towards keeping the US on board,in order to hold the most leverage. EU funding and security cooperation in the region must be reviewed to ensure full alignment with peace, human rights, and international law. Humanitarian access and the protection of civilians must be unhindered in all affected areas, including Israel, Iran, and Gaza.
We insist that the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas actively engages in this process through direct mediation and dialogue facilitation at the EU level, in cooperation with trusted international and regional actors. The EU cannot outsource its responsibility for peace.
We must be clear: The authoritarian and theocratic regime in Iran — which brutally oppresses its own population, including women, dissenters, and minorities; which has stated the goal of Israel’s extinction; and which is actively pursuing nuclear capabilities — poses grave threats to security and human rights.
At the same time, the current Israeli government’s relentless assault on Gaza — carried out with blatant disregard for international law — has unleashed catastrophic human suffering, with entire communities devastated and civilian lives shattered. It stands as a major driver of regional instability.
We also condemn the ill-advised words of United States President Donald Trump where he called for the immediate evacuation of Tehran, a city of more than ten million people.
Stop Double Standards
The EU’s credibility depends on the consistent application of international law. We must end selective outrage - condemning violations wherever they occur. Civilian lives are not a matter of political convenience.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza cannot be ignored. Civilians are bearing the brunt, and the EU must not turn away.
We urge the European Commission and the High Representative to deliver a coherent, values-based diplomatic strategy in the coming days. The EU must be a credible force for peace, justice, and international law - not a passive observer or partisan enabler.
