The European Green Party today calls on the European People’s Party (EPP) to end its association with Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party and expel SNS from its ranks.
“The fact that a convicted genocidaire is to be honoured by the Serbian state is beyond shameful. Today, SNS is still an associate member of the European People’s Party. If the EPP cannot act when a government linked to its associated party announces state and military honours for a convicted war criminal, then what exactly was its scrutiny process for?” said European Green Party Co-Chair Ciarán Cuffe.

On 25 September 2025 at a press conference in the European parliament, the EPP president Manfred Weber announced a ‘thorough and swift internal investigation with open-ended results’ into the role of Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party its internal scrutiny process. Almost a year later, the EPP has not publicly announced its outcome, while SNS remains listed on the EPP website as an associate member party.
On 28 August, Serbian Justice Minister Nenad Vujić said that Mladić would receive “all the military and state honours”.
Mladić was convicted by the UN tribunal of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, including his responsibility for the 1995 Srebrenica genocide, and was serving a life sentence when he died in The Hague on 27 August.
