Across Europe, Green mayors are proving that visionary and transformative leadership is possible, even in increasingly right-leaning national contexts. By staying close to communities, our local governments implement concrete solutions to major challenges in housing, mobility, climate adaptation, public services, and more. These local actions are not only resisting regressive narratives - they are building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future.
Since 2020, EGP has invested in building a strong network of Green local politicians. To build on this momentum, we are convening a Green Mayors’ Summit to offer a space for strategic exchange, networking, and setting a strong foundation for collaboration and mutual support.
The summit will feature a roundtable discussion with Green Mayors driving progressive policies, divided into two sections. First, there's the opportunity to exchange on best practices and challenges, as well as share your solutions in the areas of climate action, affordable housing, and social services and inclusion.
The second part will focus on how the EU can better support cities in delivering progressive policies, where we will focus specifically on the opportunities and limitations of the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework. We will discuss ways of collectively challenging the most pressing issues, such as increased autonomy of national governments, absence of direct funding and how local governments and mayors can influence future decision-making related to the MFF.

UPDATE
Declaration: Strong Partnerships and Direct EU Funding are Vital for a Just, Healthy, and Sustainable Transition
The mayors at the roundtable meeting agreed on a declaration, As the EU negotiates its next seven-year budget, Europe faces rising inequalities, industrial transformation, geopolitical instability, and the accelerating triple planetary crisis.
We, the undersigned Green Mayors and Vice-Mayors, believe this is a pivotal moment to put citizens, local democracy, and the green and just transition at the heart of Europe’s budget. Cities and regions must be fully empowered to deliver socio-ecological solutions that ensure no one is left behind and that cities and rural areas alike can benefit.
