European Green Parties representatives adopted today in Paris a 12-points political proposal 1 to step out of the current financial, social and economic crisis affecting Europe, and a roadmap for the refounding of the European project: European Greens are convinced that the European project needs to find a new sense of direction and purpose. Green Blueprint for Another Agriculture

The plenary session on Friday evening welcomed the Deputy Director General of the EU’s DG for Agriculture, João Pacheco to put forward the Commission’s new vision of a cleaner, greener and more equitable Common Agricultural Policy to those who have so long demanded reforms in this area – the Greens of Europe. After the Arab Spring

Member of European Parliament and vice-president of the European Parliament Isabelle Durant hosted the plenary ‘After the Arab Spring’. She invited Mehdi Lahlou, Seve Aydin-Izouli and MEP Hélène Flautre.

Mehdi Lahlou is a left-wing Moroccan politician,and one of the contact persons in Morocco of the Green Members of European Parliament. Lahlou explained the specific Moroccan situation. Morocco doesn’t have a dictator but a king with almost absolute powers. Although Morocco has a democratic elected parliament, the ultimate and final decision maker is not elected. The king still has full powers in Morocco, a country where there is no rule of law. (more…)

A note from the Dutch delegation

I travelled together with Jesse Klaver (MP) and Jurjen, press officer for GroenLinks.

I spent two hours more time travelling than expected, because our Thalys train had problems. This caused me to miss the Digital Rights workshop. I hope to hear soon what came out of it. The importance of digital rights in today’s increasingly networked society I cannot stress enough, and I am very grateful to my delegation colleague Jos van Dijk who is taking the lead on this subject. The Green Dream of Eva Joly

Today was my lucky day! Being the congress blogger, I was working in the press room. Suddenly more and more journalists came into the room. “What is going on?” I asked a photographer. “There will be a press conference by Eva Joly and European Greens about nuclear phase out.” (From Twitter I had already heard about French politician Copé, who yesterday intervened in the negotiations between the French Greens and the French Socialists. He asked them “in the name of France” (!) to stop talking about a nuclear phase out.) So… of course I decided to stay and wait for this important press conference. (more…)

Overwhelmed by greens

In my first blog I said I would write straight from the heart and with a passion for green politics. Well… after the first afternoon at the congress I am so overwhelmed with impressions and green, positive energy that writing from the heart is the only thing I am capable of now.

Dear European Greens,

This is my first blog for the Go Green! congress in Paris. Let me start by saying that I am honoured to be your blogger. My blogs will be written straight from the heart with a passion for politics. Green politics, that is.

Working as Policy Advisor for a local district heating company (going green!) in the Netherlands, I developed a passion for green energy and green politics. With populism in our country growing stronger, I decided to join green party GroenLinks. For my work I observe and analyze national and EU energy politics to advise the Board and to lobby for green energy. In my personal life I am also moving from ‘observer’ to ‘participant’ in politics.
