Europe and Democracy

Broad participation and transparent decisions – this is a core belief of the Greens. We want to continue out mission to further democracy and to defend rights in Europe and abroad.

Our vision is an inclusive society, where your opinion matters. We want to close the revolving doors for faceless lobbyist and limit their say in how Europe is run. We want you to have a voice. European Citizens Initiatives are a great first step, but we can't stop there. You decide Europe – that's why we opened up our Primary process for the European elections to everyone in Europe aged 16 or over, who supports Green values. We don't just talk democracy. We live it.

Europe is facing a crisis. We believe that the only way forward is more Europe, not less. We want to build engagement with the European Union. Two out of three EU citizens believe the EU is an important global voice. But, two out of three also believe that their voice isn't heard. For us, your voice matters and is important. We believe in increased powers for the European Parliament, where they have the power to instigate legislation. We want Europe-wide lists, so you truly have a say in the makeup of the Parliament. We want people to have a direct say in the decisions that affect them

Green MEPs are fighting for participation and transparency worldwide. Ulrike Lunacek, Rui Tavares and Judith Sargentini promote democratic reforms and human rights in the EU and abroad. On the web, Jan-Philipp Albrecht is an internationally recognised crusader for privacy and your right to be forgotten online.

Where would you like to have more say in Europe? In which fields would you like the EU to be more active? What should we do for you?

Help us renew European democracy.
