2019 EU Elections Campaign

In the aftermath of the EU elections, the New York Times described the Greens as ‘The New Hope for Europe’s Center’ and ‘Enemy No. 1’ for the far right. The Economist described the Greens as the party of ‘youth and enthusiasm.’ Most media talked about a ‘Green Wave’ as the Green group in parliament grew to a record high.

In this plenary session Ska Keller (one of the EGP leading candidates), Mar Garcia (EGP Secretary General), Sybren Kooistra (EGP Campaign Manager), will discuss the campaign for the 2019 EU Elections: What were the plans, the results and the lessons?

Ska Keller,  Co-President of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament (Germany)

Since 2016, Ska Keller is Co-President of the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament. In 2009, she was elected to the Parliament at the age of 27 and has been the European Greens' leading candidate in the 2014 and 2019 European elections.

Before becoming a member of the European Parliament, Ska was a board member of the German Young Greens, spokeswoman for the Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) and chairperson and spokesperson on women's policy for Alliance 90/The Greens in Brandenburg.

Mar Garcia, EGP secretary general (Spain)

Mar Garcia was born in Sabadell, Barcelona. She holds a degree in Political Science and is finalising Master on Public Management. Mar joined ICV, Catalonian Greens in 2003. Since then she has been part of the Party International Secretariat. Mar worked in the City Council of Barcelona for 12 years, as the responsible of the Environmental International Relations of the city of Barcelona first, and as the Head of Cabinet of the Deputy Mayor for Environment of the city afterwards. Mar has been elected as EGP Committee member in 2012 and as EGP Secretary General since 2014.

 

 

Sybren  Kooistra, Campaign Director at Reform Act (The Netherlands)

Former Campaign Manager at the European Greens for the 2019 parliamentary elections. Previously the digital and grassroots campaign leader at GroenLinks (2017, 2018).

Recently joined Reform Act, a campaign agency that offers online tools, innovative strategies and engaging communication tactics for progressive causes. Currently working on people-powered campaigns across Europe.
