Russia’s war on Ukraine has led to tremendous paradigm shifts in many policy areas – in particular for the Green family, on energy policy. While the way forward via the acceleration of renewables is clear, short term solutions and related questions remain more complex. National energy mixes differ vastly, geographical location as well as preconditions vary, and political majorities diverge. It is in this setting that we as European Greens want to debate the way forward for a green energy policy. These times will require unseen efforts to boost the green energy transition, and may require difficult decisions in the short term. We would like to provide a possibility to come together and discuss: Decarbonization vs. Diversification? What role can and should energy savings play? What are the next key milestones for energy efficiency? And how can we ensure a common direction above and beyond short term tradeoffs?
