Climate change and the rule of law - How to finance climate transition in CEE countries instead of oligarchs?
Organised by the European Greens and hosted by LMP - Magyarország Zöld Pártja & Párbeszéd
The event will be held online and it will be livestreamed
The necessary energy and economic transition of the EU to avoid the worst consequences of climate change is slowly but surely underway: the European Climate Law with its ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets is on its way to adoption and Green investments are planned both in the next 7 year MFF and in the post COVID-19 recovery package of the EU.
In order for the EU to reach its 2030 and 2050 climate targets, however, the CEE region needs to contribute much more - but for this the region needs much more funding in order to carry out a just energy transition. Thus, the first part of our event aims to tackle the question: how to transform industries in Hungary to satisfy the climate goals?
The second question our event aims to tackle is how local actors on the ground and in the EU institutions can together ensure that the money being made available will not be lost in corruption and that it will not support the fossil fuel industry in the wider CEE region and specifically in Hungary.
We are delighted to welcome you to the 31st European Green Party Council, from 10 to 13 June 2020, which will take place online for the first time ever, due to the coronavirus.
