The 19th Council Meeting of the European Greens takes place in Brussels this weekend, from November 8-10. The theme of the Council is You Decide Europe!
For us Greens, this isn't just a catchy slogan. It's a philosophy that we're putting into practice over the next seven months, before the European Elections in May 2014.
The Council meeting is an opportunity to discuss our political agenda for the next five years. During the opening session on Friday, we'll come together to debate European democracy, and what changes the EU needs to reconnect with citizens. On Saturday, we will look at some of our core issues. We will address our ideas and answers for change in Europe are, and discuss the draft Green Manifesto with civil society organisations, with entrepreneurs and with our European, national and local Green politicians. The financial crisis and people's declining trust in the European institutions mean that we have to start engaging people in an active, truly participatory way. These debates are a crucial part of that.
On Sunday, we're going to kick off one of the most exciting e-democracy projects to ever take place in Europe. The Green Primary, our innovative way to select our two leading candidates for the European Elections, will be launched with a major press event, where we get to meet the Contenders. A 16 year old voter will also start us off by casting the first vote. It's the first ever open Primary of its kind in Europe. Once again, we're showing that the Greens can change how people see the EU.
If you can't join us in Brussels, we'll be keeping our website, Facebook page and Twitter feed up to date with news and features on what's happening. Find out more about the Council and what's to expect (as well as a full schedule) here!
