Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to address European Green Party Council in Glasgow
Brussels, 23 November 2016
"The European Greens are happy to announce that the Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has accepted our invitation to adress the participants of our Autumn Council Meeting in Glasgow on 2 December" said the European Green Party Co-Chairs Reinhard Bütikofer and Monica Frassoni.
"European Greens are the first of the major European political families organising such a public event in Scotland in the wake of the Brexit referendum to discuss the consequences. We do this in order to express our solidarity with the determination of the Scottish people to resist Brexit and to hold on to Scottish full membership in the European family.
"We are honoured by Minister Sturgeon's participation in our meeting and look forward to learn how in her view we can effectively cooperate to strengthen the European project against populist anti-European temptations.
"In the European Parliament, the Scottish National Party and the Greens have cooperated fruitfully in the Greens/EFA group for many years. We stand together on a broad range of issues. Only a few weeks ago SNP MEP Alyn Smith addressed the German Greens' party convention in Münster."
