The European Greens have offered their sympathies to those affected by the recent flooding in the Balkans, calling for the European Union to do all it can to support Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia after the region saw its worst flooding in decades.
Green leading candidate Ska Keller comments on the events:
“The Balkans are currently experiencing one of the worst floods in history. My solidarity is with those that are affected by the floods. We stand with you during those difficult times."
Green leading candidate José Bové said:
“This event is in particular tragic since the population has already been beaten by the previous wars in the Balkans, and are now again confronted with the ruins of their rebuilt homes. The floods not only bring a potential risk of disease, but also brought mines to the surface, which were used in the 1990s wars. The European Union must immediately coordinate aid, including food and shelter, and help to ensure these people can safely return and rebuild their homes and lives.”
