The Polish Green party, Zieloni, have elected new leaders, Agnieszka Grzybek and Adam Ostolski, who will head the party for the coming two years. The elections were part of the seventh party Congress on March 2-3.
“We want to convince people that politics can be different,” said Agnieszka Grzybek. “The crisis from which Europe is suffering now was caused by irrational and non-sustainable policies based on exploitation of the non-renewable resources. That is why we propose the Green New Deal which gives a real opportunity to overcome crisis and ensure sustainable development.”
The upcoming 2014 European elections will open the door to a wider debate about Poland as well as the role of Europe as a whole.
“We need a fair and authentic debate about Europe,” said Adam Ostolski. “Shall we need more or less Europe? We should discuss what Europe should look like, what Europe we want and what Europe can we build. The Greens demand a Europe that will guarantee fundamental social rights for all and provide an opportunity of sustainable development. We want a Europe that does not put the burden of the economic crisis onto people, forcing them pay for crisis that was caused by financial sector. We want a Europe with a solid federal budget and an ambitious climate policy.
"Politics can be different.”
