Open Letter to Ursula von der Leyen: direct funding for local authorities through the MFF

Post date:
03 June 2020
Body:

We have joined mayors from cities across Europe in sending an open letter to President von der Leyen. In it we urge the European Commission to establish funding for local governments and authorities through the next Multiannual Financial Framework, to recognises the pivotal role cities, urban areas and local authorities play in the lives of European citizens.

Coronavirus Recovery: Let's build a better tomorrow!

Post date:
13 May 2020
Body:

As Greens, we have always pushed for building a more sustainable and fair future, built on the values of solidarity and democracy. The global health pandemic is a crisis that we must face together, but we believe we cannot simply go back to “business-as-usual” as we begin to rebuild our societies and our economies. We have experienced first hand, and on a global scale, the shortcomings and failures of our old systems. We must learn from these experiences and rebuild things, better.

Europe Day - Let’s Act. Together!

Post date:
08 May 2020
Body:

Europe Day has traditionally been an opportunity to look back at Europe’s achievements in terms of peace and prosperity. This year it is impossible to celebrate the fact that the European Union has been a war-free land for almost 75 years in the same way as we have done before. However, we can still look back at the words of the Schuman Declaration, one of the founding fathers of the EU, which gave birth to the Europe we now celebrate every year on 9 May.

It is time for the Europe of Solidarity: Coronabonds now!

Post date:
08 April 2020
Body:

Unfortunately, a microscopic virus might achieve what Brexit, the migration crisis or the 2008 financial crisis failed to do: fatally injure the European Union.

European Greens response to COVID-19 crisis

Post date:
25 March 2020
Body:

Rarely before has a crisis of such scale impacted so many, in such a short time, across our planet. This is an unprecedented challenge to our societies, which humanity must face together. Solidarity and ambitious cooperation, not nationalism or egoism, will ensure we come out of this crisis stronger and wiser. We must leave no one behind and face this together with open hearts.

“Fight for a feminist Europe” - Actions behind a slogan

Post date:
07 March 2020
Body:

There is a world of action behind the “Fight for a feminist Europe” slogan. The Greens have a long-standing track record of actually fighting for a feminist Europe. We thought International Women’s Day is the perfect opportunity to share some of our work.

On World NGO Day raising our voice on shrinking civic space in Europe is more important than ever

Post date:
27 February 2020
Short title:
On World NGO Day raising our voice on shrinking civic space in Europe is more important than ever
Body:

The 27th February 2020 marks the sixth time that World NGO Day is celebrated globally. This day is dedicated to those in our society who carry out the invaluable work that governments neglect or ignore. It is about celebrating those, who relentlessly and tirelessly work for the ones in need, for those whose voices are rarely heard, for a sustainable future in harmony with nature, for inclusive societies, for holding governments accountable and for the respect of inalienable human rights and democracy.
