Investing in rail will propel us towards a just and sustainable transition

Post date:
07 May 2021
Body:

Today is the European Day of Rail. Rail has been a critical part of the development of European mobility. Europe's rail system has had a key role in connecting European cities across the continent.

Transportation has been a major focus of the European Greens, with investment in rail being a key Green demand. We can have a just and sustainable transition that puts workers and their rights at the forefront! The enhancement of European railway networks will mean new green jobs that offer fair remuneration and decent working conditions.

The use of lawsuits to silence journalists is a threat to European democracy

Post date:
03 May 2021
Body:

On World Press Freedom Day, the European Greens are highlighting lawsuits used to silence critics as a threat to European democracy. Journalists have faced an especially high degree of violence and harassment in the past year.

But the hostilities under which they must work don’t end there. The Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP) is wielded by individuals and companies to keep journalists from speaking out on issues of public concern.

It is time to end the precarity that gig workers face

Post date:
01 May 2021
Body:

May Day reminds us of the collective efforts that have been made throughout history to fight for worker’s rights. On this day, we ask for the protection of labour rights for all Europeans. This year, the European Greens are focused on the need to take decisive action to guarantee the socio-economic protections of gig-workers.

The European Greens have been working on the issues that affect gig workers since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. Read about our demands to the EU and national governments!

Thomas Waitz travels to Białowieża primeval forest in Poland

Post date:
28 April 2021
Body:

This week, European Greens co-chair and MEP Thomas Waitz took a trip to Poland to visit the Białowieża forest. As an organic farmer, forester, and beekeeper, the issue of biodiversity is central to his political programme, as well as to that of the European Green Party.

Białowieża forest has survived thanks to the previous efforts that have been made by local, national and European civil society to protect it over the ages. We must continue to safeguard it from interests that may seek to destroy this vital area for biodiversity conservation.

German Greens: Annalena Baerbock will run for chancellor

Post date:
23 April 2021
Body:

Annalena Baerbock will be the first ever Green candidate and the only woman running for Chancellor in Germany. At a time of great challenges, she represents a different way of doing politics: renewal rather than the status quo.

With Baerbock as Chancellor candidate, the German Greens are well positioned to govern and take on the task of addressing the climate crisis!
