We are celebrating the defeat of ACTA with the rest of the Green community on our Facebook page. Click and visit.
The Greens were ready to celebrate the defeat of ACTA with posters to be paraded once the loss vote was recorded.
The Green parties across Europe have been methodically fighting the ACTA legislation since its introduction and today's resounding defeat is well celebrated by the party and its supporters.
While ACTA was often described as counter-internet legislation, the scope of ACTA was far more expansive. It affected individual privacy issues, gave excessive authoritiy to private business, threatens fair competiton, would affect the supply chain for life-saving medicines. The Greens documented reasons why ACTA was a flawed document (read 50 reasons to reject ACTA here).
The overwhelming defeat of ACTA (478 voted no to just 39 in favour) is reason for the Greens, and Europe, to celebrate.
