The Greens ran their biggest campaign ever.
The Albanian Greens, Partia e Gjelbër, were part of the left coalition “Alliance for a European Albania”, which won 84 Parliament members, a historic victory since 1992 for that coalition. Although the Greens did not get an MP elected, they gave a worthwhile contribution to the election, especially in the Elbasan district. The Greens managed to gain a foothold in comparison with the last elections and went from 46 votes in 2009 to 2.100 votes now (the number of Albanian voters was around 1.7 million).
The Albanian Greens are convinced that the Green vote is much higher, however as they do not have representatives in counting commissions they consider this the cause of the current result. The Albanian Greens are nevertheless happy with the outcome, taken into consideration their limited resources and the constraints of electoral system. They participated with Green candidates in over 11 districts to fulfill the obligation of the electoral code and also to promote the Greens all over Albania with a campaign that focused on solutions to the crises and on sustainable development.
The Albanian Greens consider the result as a first step and look forward to continue the work in the future!
