Dear Friends,

We are proud to open the call to your Green politicians who would like to become one of the leading candidates for the European Greens in the 2014 European elections.

At the Madrid Spring Council we engaged with our Member Parties to create this innovative and ambitious project to choose the two Green leading candidates by means of an open online Europe-wide Green Primary!

It is the first time that a European political Party will select its leading representatives through such an open, participatory and democratic process.

To nominate a candidate, a party needs to complete the following steps:

1.       Fill out the attached Green Primary Nomination form (1&2)

2.       Send the completed and signed Green Primary Nomination form at the latest before Sunday October 20, 00:00am CET (or October 19, 23:00 GMT) by email to candidates@europeangreens.eu (3)

You will find more information in the annexed nomination procedure (4).

Between October 21 and November 7, EU EGP Member Parties will be asked to express their support for one of the candidates. Only candidates who get the support of at least four Member Parties, become official contenders in the Green Primary, which starts at the Autumn Council (see the attached schedule (5)). A candidate can receive the support of maximum eight EU EGP Member Parties.

The deadline for presenting candidacies and nomination

The deadline for applications for candidacy and nomination by member parties is Sunday October 20, 00:00am CET (or October 19, 23:00 GMT).

Candidates who receive the support of at least four Member Parties, will then participate as Contenders in the Green Primary at the Brussels Autumn Council (November 8-10).

We ask you to spread this call for candidates through the appropriate channels within your parties.

Please, do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions!

With kind regards,

Jacqueline Cremers
Secretary General European Green Party
