[Edit: January 2022 - Note from the Federation of the Green Parties of Americas clarifying the position of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico on the topic]
The Federation of the Green Parties of the Americas, during its XX1 Assembly, recognises the commitment expressed in favour of the principles and values that govern us, made by the representation of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico, which reiterates it commitment to respect the life in all its forms and its refusal to include in the electoral platform and its statutory documents any mention that promotes the death penalty as a viable solution to the excessive violence that the country has experienced for more than a decade. Violence must be resolved by combatting impunity and by raising awareness in society.

The EGP has no option but to not consider the PVEM a member of the Green political family any longer. This is not a matter of a difference of opinion on policy options; it is a matter of basic principles. The PVEM is fully aware that the rejection of the death penalty is enshrined in the Charter of the Global Greens voted at the 1st Global Greens Congress in Canberra in 2001.
