Fukushima anniversary – Europe must abandon nuclear energy
Body:

On the third anniversary of the Fukushima disaster, Green parties across the EU are remembering the victims of the tragic accident and are calling for a Europe-wide nuclear phase out. Nuclear energy is expensive and highly risky and Greens will continue to fight against it. People voting Green in the next European elections in May can be sure what they get: a clear ‘no’ to nuclear and a big ‘yes’ to energy saving and renewables.

Irish Greens call for a new direction
Body:

Comhaontas Glas, the Irish Green party, held their convention in Dublin on 6-7 March, with over 200 people in attendance. The theme of the convention was ‘A New Direction’, a reference to the ‘from the ground-up’ vision of Green politics, and how the Greens want to rebuild society in a new way.

International Women's Day in Turkey
Body:

International Women's Day is a day where people everywhere stop and recognise the ongoing challenges women face in their every day lives. Gender equality is one of the core parts of our campaign for the European Elections in May – we want a world where women and men are completely equal in all areas.

European Greens stand in solidarity with Ukraine against Russian aggression
Body:

The European Green Party (EGP) has expressed its solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and their fight for European orientation, democracy, peace and independence. Russia has invaded Crimea and is threatening an even broader invasion of Ukraine. The military control of Russian troops over the Crimean peninsula is a violation of Ukrainian sovereignty. Russia is blatantly ignoring its own treaty obligations, international law and its obligations under UN charters. We are highly alarmed by this aggression and call for it to end immediately.

Martin Schulz elected as PES leading candidate
Body:

On 2 March, Martin Schulz was elected as the leading candidate of the Party of the European Socialists with over 90% of delegate’s votes. While the result itself can be considered a solid one, the general outcome of the vote can hardly be considered a surprise. Unlike the other main political families who allowed or even encouraged competition in the run-up to the designation of their leading candidates – with the Ska Keller and José Bové elected as our Green leading candidates by approximately 23,000 Europeans – Schulz stood as the sole contender in the PES race.

Socialistisk Folkeparti, the Danish Greens, to apply for full EGP membership
Body:

At a party convention on 1-2 March, Socialistisk Folkeparti, the Danish Greens, voted to apply for full membership of the European Greens. SF, who joined the EGP as an observer party in November 1998 at our council meeting in London, are hoping to return Margrete Auken to the European Parliament in May. The party, who made the difficult decision to leave the Danish government earlier in the year, are hoping for a strong campaing where they can once again prove that they are an important voice in Danish politics.

European Youth Guarantee needs more funds
Body:

Commenting on the European Parliament's debate on the European Youth Guarantee, Reinhard Bütikofer, Co Chair of the European Green Party declares, "as the European Parliament discusses the European Youth Guarantee, once again young people throughout Europe continue to get very mixed messages. Promises are increasingly sounding hollow because European leaders with regard to youth unemployment, are still not putting enough money where their mouth is."
