The first elections to choose the four European representatives to the Global Greens Coordination will be held during our Madrid Council 10-12 May and we invite candidates to put themselves forward to serve for a three year term. Candidates are requested to send in their application with a motivation letter and curriculum vitae by Friday, 19 April (until midnight CET), to ann.verheyen@europeangreens.eu.
GGC is the body set up to act as the quasi-council of the Global Greens and consists of members from each of the four Federations which make up our Global Green family- the African Green Federation, the Asia-Pacific Green Network, the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas and the European Green Party.
The GGC is responsible for the Global Greens political work between Congresses and for ensuring that the Global Greens’ objectives are achieved. Every federation has three members and three alternate members. In addition there is a Convenor and a smaller Executive team (with one representative of each federation participating) to lead the day-to-day operational management, together with a newly appointed full-time Secretary based in the EGP Brussels office.
After the third Global Greens Congress in Dakar, the Global Greens will prepare for its next Congress in Europe in 2016 and will implement its resolutions to strengthens its cooperation between the federations. The coming years the Global Greens will reinforce the cooperation by institutionalizing the organisation, professionalise and enlarging the work and scope of the Global Greens networks.
You can find more details on the website http://www.globalgreens.org/
Meetings of the GGC are normally held by Skype or other conference call systems, about once every 4/8 weeks. In addition, we aim for one face-to-face meeting per year, usually linked to Green representation at a major global or regional event and subject to availability of funds. Members are expected to follow global political developments, to report on significant trends in their region and to work to promote the values of the Global Greens Charter. They may be called on to take the lead in common political projects and to participate in Global Green networks.
