21st EGP Council Programme

Venue: Intercontinental Hotel, Asker Ocağı Cad. No:1 Taksim 34435, İstanbul, Turkey

Over the summer, the situation in the Ukraine and the wider Middle East region deteriorated further. We have decided to dedicate the whole Saturday afternoon to discussing these issues in two plenary sessions.

Time does not permit looking into all aspects, but we hope to discuss some major points, and will continue this discussion over the upcoming year. Please note that this programme is subject to changes, to reflect any new developments.

Opening plenary

"The Future of Europe and the role of Turkey"

What else other than the relationship between Turkey and the EU could be the subject of the opening plenary of this 21st EGP Council in Istanbul?
The relationship between Turkey and the EU is challenging at times. As this relationship continues to evolve, it's clear that both will have to examine, define and redefine their mutual relationship and how they can move forward together.

Plenary

"Situation in the Ukraine"

The first half of 2014 was dominated by news from Ukraine: pro-Russia militia entering Crimea, ongoing military actions in Eastern Ukraine, flight MH17 shot out of the air and a new Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko. Then, in parliamentary elections held at the end of October, pro-European parties overall won.
This discussion, with experts on Ukrainian and Russian politics, will look at the consequences of these recent developments and the elections, and what the outcome might mean for Europe.
