Greening the economy. Our fight for a new industrial model that reduces our ecological footprint and provides Green jobs.
The economy has never been more global than now and industries are rapidly transforming and entering into the digital age. In this century we also face new challenges that call for a complete overhaul of our economic system. To make the future fossil free and to foster sustainable ways of production and transportation we need to initiate a Green transformation. A Green economy will provide decent jobs in industries of the future while making us less dependent on economic growth. Our lives are more than just GDP figures.
We support Green enterprises, cooperatives and local initiatives and urge for responsible business leadership. The days of corporate capitalism that enriches only a handful while endangering the people and the planet are numbered. We want to put the people and the planet first and improve Europe's quality of life, today and tomorrow.
We are also committed to our struggle for fair trade agreements that respect workers’ rights and consumer protection, comply with environmental and safety standards, do not undermine the juridical system, force out smaller competitors or cause a threat to the subsistence of people in developing countries.
Economic crises are causing severe social hardship and poverty. Austerity measures have proven to be worsening the living standards of many citizens by further increasing unemployment and restricting access to basic goods and services. We want to make sure that no one is left behind. We therefore advocate economic guarantees for citizens and active spending policies to support economic regeneration and restore hope, especially for young people.
Employees have to adapt quickly to new demands in the modern world of work. We want to see more investments in lifelong learning to enable employees to gain skills during their professional careers. Green jobs will be the future, therefore job transitions have to be as smoothly as possible to avoid unemployment and poverty.
One thing is for sure: our current productivist model has no future. It is evident that we overuse many of the natural resources of our planet, thereby bringing severe harm to the biosphere and our fellow creatures, and endangering the future of our children. We have to find ways to live within the planetary boundaries.
