On behalf of more than 35,000 Serbian citizens who signed the petition to ban genetically modified organisms, the Greens of Serbia submitted to Serbian Parliament the petition and proposal of the Law prohibiting the manufacture and sales of GMOs in the country. The inspiration for this initiative was derived from the necessity “to put the best quality food on our tables and outlaw dangerous practices like genetic modification”, an important point of the Green New Deal.

The European Commission presented this week its enlargement package, including the recommendation to grant EU candidate status to Serbia on the "understanding that Serbia re-engages in the dialogue with Kosovo" and implements agreements already reached. Membership negotiations should not be started, according to the Commission, until Serbia has achieved significant progress in normalising its relations with Kosovo.

Commenting on the arrest, Green foreign affairs spokesperson Franziska Brantner said: “The long overdue arrest of Ratko Mladic marks major step towards a new chapter for Serbia, Bosnia and the wider region, both as regards coming to terms with the tragic recent past and progressing along the path of reconciliation. 

The Spokespersons of the European Green Party have expressed their dismay that the Pride event due to take place on Sunday 20th September was de facto cancelled by the Serbian authorities as a result of threats of violence and intimidation by far-right extremists.
