On Sunday 4 December 2022, the Montenegrin Greens ‘Civic Movement URA’ were unanimously adopted as full members of the European Green Party during the 7th European Green Party Congress.
Commenting after the vote, Montenegro Prime Minister and Civic Movement URA Party leader Dritan Abazović comments:
“We are delighted that the European Greens delegates have unanimously embraced us as a full member of the family. We are tirelessly working to bring Montenegro closer to the EU with the hope to strengthen its path towards EU membership. We are convinced that our strengthened membership with the European Green Party will help this path. Our strengthened cooperation with the European Greens and all its member parties will also help our fight against corruption and for a Green Montenegro.”
Thomas Waitz, European Green Party co-chair and MEP adds:
“We warmly welcome ‘Civic Movement URA’ as a full member of European Green Party. Over the last two years, URA strengthened its development in Montenegro and has proven a very active member of the European Greens family.
Its work to end corruption, protect the environment, and bring Montenegro in the path to EU membership has been noticed by our members. It is also becoming an increasingly reliable partner for social movements and environmental movement in Montenegro. As European Greens, we will continue supporting URA’s development and help it achieve its goal for a Greener, more European Montenegro.”
