on the Kyoto Protocol

Resolution adopted at the EGP Council, Riga, 6-8 May 2005. (.pdf)

For the first time in the history of humanity an international arrangement about derogation of emission has been achieved: Russia has ratified the Kyoto protocol and thereby it comes into force on the February 16th, 2005. The protocol has an important political and symbolic significance in this moment, because it defines a willingness of a comprehensive, international society to reduce threats of the destabilization of global climate. In the same time isolation of USA from this international agreement becomes extra actual. That kind of act of the USA seriously damages the campaign with negative climate changes and endangers human hopes for a secure future.

With this resolution European Green Party joins international actions with a purpose to change the irresponsible action of the USA. We appeal to the USA to admit their responsibility in development of climate changes and to join the Kyoto protocol.

We, European Greens meeting in Riga, Latvia, ask the USA administration to ratify the Kyoto protocol
