Today, over one million people in Europe and around the world are taking part in the global strike for future to demand climate action and call on people eligible to vote in these European elections to vote for climate.
Speaking ahead of the strike, the co-leading candidate of the European Green Party, MEP Bas Eickhout said:
"The one million people on the streets today in Europe and around the world makes it abundantly clear that climate is our generation's biggest challenge. As Europeans head to the polls in the 28 Member States, they can be in no doubt that, like never before, these elections are climate elections.
"Green parties have been making big wins in elections across Europe. The Green Wave has already come to the Netherlands and is looking unstoppable. We Greens share the concerns of people taking to the streets today and will keep on fighting to put climate at the core of all policy making.
"We need an inter-generational pact so that parents and grandparents can vote in the best interests of their children on a sustainable planet. Voting for the climate means voting Green. In our climate plan, we define 10 points to reduce CO2 emissions by 60% before 2030 and go carbon neutral by 2050 at the latest by shifting to 100% renewables in line with the Paris agreement."
"Let’s make sure that we stand together and vote climate this weekend - by voting Green - for everyone's sake, including those too young to vote."
