European Greens support LMP in Hungary’s upcoming national elections

Resolution accepted at the 12th EGP Council, Barcelona, Spain, March 19-21, 2010

According to the most recent information from Hungary the European Green Party’s observer member LMP – Politics Can Be Different has managed to establish a national list and territorial lists in all 20 counties. This means citizens all over the country will be able to vote for the party at the national elections held on 11 and 25 April, an opportunity which no Green party has ever come close to creating since the regime change.

We, members of the European Green Party believe this is a historic opportunity for Hungarian voters to give parliamentary representation to an independent Green force which has sworn to reform party financing, achieve social integration for the Roma minority, and create incentives for a green turn in the country’s economy. Polls have shown a steady increase in support for LMP in the last two months, with the most recent ones placing the party just above the 5 % threshold required to enter parliament.

We therefore urge all members parties of the European Green Party to support LMP’s ongoing campaign by

1. rallying Hungarian citizens residing in their countries to vote for the greens at the upcoming elections in April;

2. sending textual or visual messages in support of the party and asking their leaders and delegates to participate in the party’s election campaign.
