EQUO is adding up… but it needs your help to multiply
The newly-born Spanish national Green Party EQUO has successfully gathered the 80,000 signatures and it is now able to run in the forthcoming National Elections in Spain on 20th November.
This is a historic al moment and opportunity for the Greens in Spain.
With the current level of funding, EQUO can reach 1 million households, however it needs extra help – and funds – to multiply the chances to win. This outreach can be easily increased with some extra funds. With an additional 40.000 euros EQUO can reach their target of 1,5 million households in the region of Madrid.
Thus EQUO would stand very good chances to see at least two elected Members in the Madrid constituency, and in this case to form a Parliamentary group in the national Parliament, the Cortes 1 .

What is EQUO?
EQUO was launched in 2011 in Spain as a common political and social project bringing together green movements and individuals who share common objectives, such as economic, environmental and social sustainability, fight against climate change, and the defence of civil rights.
It has now obtained the 80.000 signatures can run in national elections.
EQUO campaigns on three key topics: economy, democracy and sustainability. It calls for a green fiscal reform, installing the Tobin tax and cancelling all fiscal heavens. The party also demands a truly participative democracy with total transparency of public decisions, zero tolerance for corruption, as well as an electoral reform making all votes equal.
It also calls for a change in the economic and production model towards sustainable economy, reducing ecological footprint and aiming at preserving human well-being and social equality, while drastically reducing carbon emissions and aiming at an energy model based on 100% renewables.

1 A parliamentary group in the Spanish Cortes can be founded with a minimum of 5 members. A parliamentary group means more resources and therefore much more effectiveness in the political functioning of Spanish Greens throughout the country. Spain has regional constituencies, and the expected 2 seats for EQUO in Madrid would add to others foreseen by polls to EQUO coalitions and allies in other regions, which would allow the first Green parliamentary Group in the history of Spanish democracy.
