Climate change and the rule of law - How to finance climate transition in CEE countries instead of oligarchs?

Registration is closed for this event
Organised by the European Greens and hosted by LMP – Magyarország Zöld Pártja and Párbeszéd

The necessary energy and economic transition of the EU to avoid the worst consequences of climate change is slowly but surely underway: the European Climate Law with its ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets is on its way to adoption and Green investments are planned both in the next 7 year MFF and in the post COVID- 19 recovery package of the EU.

In order for the EU to reach its 2030 and 2050 climate targets, however, the CEE region needs to contribute much more - but for this the region needs much more funding in order to carry out a just energy transition. Thus, the first part of our event aims to tackle the question: how to transform industries in Hungary to satisfy the climate goals?

The second question our event aims to tackle is how local actors on the ground and in the EU institutions can together ensure that the money being made available will not be lost in corruption and that it will not support the fossil fuel industry in the wider CEE region and specifically in Hungary.

💙 WE STAND WITH UKRAINE 💛

🫶 During the #EGPCongress in Vienna, we took a moment to express our unwavering solidarity with Ukraine. Putin’s war is also an attack on our shared European values of democracy, human rights, and freedom. https://t.co/qOd5ODkBfh

“We now see the shift from fossil fuels driven by tech innovation and economic interests. But to avoid climate catastrophe, we can’t just add electric cars to the status quo. We need to change the way our societies live.” https://t.co/aPvW7V2naP
