Shrinking of democratic spaces
Christine Meissler, Advisor for Civil Society Space at Bread for the World
Since March 2013, Christine Meissler has been working as Advisor for Civil Society Space at Brot für die Welt (Bread for the World), trying to support partners under threat. Previously, she was employed as Senior Advisor for InWEnt/GIZ in the field of Peace Development and as Protection Delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva, Manila and Addis Ababa. Christine Meissler is a Masters graduate of Political Science (Free University of Berlin) and International Human Rights Law (Oxford University).
Christine will give a general overview about the space of civil society actors globally. She will explain reasons for and patterns of shrinking civil society space, but will also show which strategies were successful in defending civil society space. And last but not least, she will present demands for EU decision makers to improve civic space globally.
